On December 17, 1896, Pittsburgh's Schenley Park Casino, the city's first multi-purpose arena, was tragically destroyed by fire. Opened in 1895, the casino was renowned for housing North America's first artificial ice surface, making it a premier destination for ice skating and the birthplace of organized ice hockey in Pittsburgh. Beyond its ice rink, the casino featured luxury boxes, a grand theater, and a lavish roof garden, serving as a cultural hub for the community.
